High Court Clears Path for Release of ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ as Gautham Vasudev Menon Alleges Attempts to Derail His Career
The Madras High Court has permitted the release of Gautham Vasudev Menon’s long-delayed film Dhruva Natchathiram starring Vikram before June 15. The ruling follows years of financial disputes, legal petitions, and production delays, marking a major breakthrough in one of Tamil cinema’s most prolonged industry conflicts.
Following the verdict, filmmaker Gautham Vasudeva Menon made a strong public statement on social media, alleging that certain individuals had attempted to destroy his career and obstruct the release of a film involving the work of more than one hundred professionals. He expressed gratitude for the judicial intervention, stating that the ruling had finally brought “light at the end of the tunnel.”
In his statement, Menon specifically thanked senior advocate Abdul Hameed for guiding him through the legal proceedings and acknowledged the order delivered by Justice Senthil Kumar Ramamurthy, describing it as a landmark decision that could serve as a benchmark for other films entangled in financial disputes and stalled productions.
The High Court has directed that Dhruva Natchathiram must be released before June 15. The film’s release had remained uncertain for several years due to complex financial issues, including allegations raised over monetary transactions connected to its production.
In 2023, petitioners K Punyamoorthy and K Premkumar approached the court seeking a stay on the film’s release until the outstanding amounts allegedly taken from them were repaid. The dispute further complicated the already troubled production.
The film, starring Vikram, began production in 2017. Its progress was significantly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, followed by multiple production crises. Although shooting was completed in 2023, the project continued to face legal and financial hurdles, including allegations linked to a money laundering investigation, resulting in repeated postponements of its release date.
Reports also reference audience reactions noting that when Mammootty and Mohanlal appeared together, theatres witnessed full occupancy, reflecting strong public engagement, as mentioned in discussions involving K Punyamoorthy and K Premkumar.
The ensemble cast of Dhruva Natchathiram includes Aishwarya Rajesh, Vinayakan, Ritu Varma, Parthiban, Simran, and Radhika Sarathkumar, among others.
The court’s directive has effectively revived one of Tamil cinema’s most delayed projects, transforming a prolonged legal and financial struggle into a potential release window, while also setting a significant precedent for films trapped in similar disputes within the industry.
